How's that 16GB RAM working out for you? Is anything actually aware of that much RAM?

Today I was using over half of the RAM just with a few programs open, but one of them was Pixelmator - I was doing a lot of graphical stuff. I always have Mail and Safari running and usually Pages as well. Other stuff I run is above whatever RAM those three apps happen to be using.

The nice thing about having this much RAM is that when I download huge PDF files, like The Denver Post newspaper (PDF format), they open almost immediately and I can scroll through them without a hiccup.

For the first time next weekend I am going to start doing some 3D rendering. The RAM should be put to good use in this area.

I have noticed one thing with 16 GB RAM vs. 1 GB RAM - a much more enjoyable computing experience with my Mac Pro and Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. :)

These look great! Is it possible to change the default folder icon that Leopard uses for all new folders to one of these using something like CandyBar? I've used CandyBar before but it was a while ago in Tiger so I can't really remember if that was possible back then.

Looks better than those horrible yellowy ones they shipped (or did they???) with leopard, might want to increase the contrast a bit, or just make the icons stand out a bit better, other than that, perfect.

Ooh... very nice. Would you be willing to do one additional folder, though? I am looking for a matching folder for Shortcuts. I was thinking that it would have an enlarged shortcut arrow on it, in the same style as the other folders.

If so, I would greatly appreciate it. If not, well then, I understand.

Thanks for these, Macintosh Sauce, they look great! I had been hating at the blue folders in Leopard, so these are perfect. :)

To change your system folder icons...

Go to Macintosh HD>System>Library>CoreServices>CoreTypes.bundle

Right click and "Show Package Contents"
Open Contents
Open Resources

Then look for same folder names with the extension .icns. Copy all these files to your Desktop (see PNG graphics for the ICNS files you need to copy. BACK YOUR ORIGINAL ICNS FILES UP IN CASE YOU WANT TO REVERT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL LOOK, OR download them here.

Right-click the copied ICNS files on your Desktop to open with Icon Composer.

Drag PNG files I made to the 512 pixel square.

Select "Copy to all smaller sizes"

Press Import button

NOTE: I did the Sepia (Dark) ones already. For matching Docks see here.

Copy these updated ICNS files on your Desktop back to the Resources folder where you found them.

Restart and enjoy!

How long will it take you to open this image with your 16gb of ram
http://www.spacetelescope.org/images/original/heic0710a.tif
Warning 706mb in size

After I downloaded it, this picture took 20 seconds, from the time I right-clicked on it to open in Preview, to open with no other applications running in my Dock. What a huge file! :)

I resized it to put on my Desktop because it looks so nice. :)

Also, for the new Dock graphics I made here are two different versions:

Dock - Black and White
Dock - White and Black
