Hey:

I just thought this was interesting. Recently, Asus came out with a small form factor desktop, which is called the Nova. Below is the link....

http://promos.asus.com/US/evensite/Nova/index.htm

Specs are as follows:
Size: 9 in x 7.2 in x 2 in (it's a little longer and wider than a Mac Mini)
Processor: 1.8-GHz Core 2 Duo chip
VCard: Intel GMA 3000 graphics processor
Ram: 1 GB
Hard Drive:160GB

It seems a bit pricey. I do believe the next mac mini revision (hopefully soon) will probably blow this thing away, and still be cheaper :) But, competition is good :p

Wow not bad whats the price? Dvi output and wireless N - they don't seem to be skimping at all. 1gb RAM is kind of silly though but a very cheap upgrade.

Edit: yeah 800-900$ thats expensive.

Looks neat, very neat. Kinda pricey though, and it doesn't run OS X =[

This can only help Apple. I went to the page; the thing is crap (look at it!). People, being idiots on the whole, will see this and... oh. I just saw the price. $8-900. Yeah, Apple's not going to do anything special to the Mini now; it's still cheaper.

If this Nova thing had been the same price/less, Apple may have upped the Mini's hardware to compete more aggressively, but they have no need to do so.

Aside: It's sad that they think that enough people still use their suggested resolution of 1024x768 to warrant the site being built around it.

1G RAM with no options to upgrade (at least that I saw)...not sure how good the X3000 graphics are...what's that orange protrusion with the two holes in it supposed to be? It's not bad looking except for that.

I think the two holes are pencil holders :p

A similarly equipped mac mini (1.8GHz, 160GB HD) will run about $700. To really grab some attention, I think for the Asus Nova should have been priced at $600-700.

For $900 you can get more bang for your buck. Actually you could purchase the base mac mini for $600, and use the $300 for a 24+" LCD screen.

Only thing I like about it is that you can stand it up if you want to. It looks ugly as hell though.
