I've used iPhoto so far, I love it..... helps me keep everything organized, but since my new D40 will be arriving soon, I don't know if I should start using aperture and that way keep my "dslr" shot pics in aperture and the normal P&S shot pics in iphoto. What do you guys think?

I will save all the dslr pics in an external drive since they take up lots of space.

I agree with swiftaw. Use iPhoto first and see if it's still meeting your needs. Then, if you find iPhoto is falling short of what you need, download the free trial versions of Aperture and Lightroom (one at a time) and try them out.

i know this is slightly off topic but in lightroom you can sort pictures by camera model so... i'm sure aperture can do the same thing so you can just port all your photos into one app!

i think it'd be good to start using aperture, you'll want to start learning how to post process
