Hey Guys, I pulled the trigger Sunday and picked up a brand new D610 with 24-85 and 70-300 lens! So far I am loving life in FULL FRAME! Love everything about my new camera! I am not sure to pick up the NIKON Ext Coverage warranty that will give me a total of 3 years for service in case anything should go wrong! Do a lot of you guys out there buy this? $149.00 US I think its a small price to pay.. for a $2800 purchase. The only thing I noticed that its not transferable.. I thought it would be great to sell it with camera if I sold it... Any thoughts.. Before I loose the window to buy the coverage...

Generally I don't bother with extended warranties as you can usually save more by sticking the $149 in the bank and pay for any repair you need over the next 3 years. I assume you get 12 months foc anyhow?

Yes u get 1 year from nikon and 5 years on the both lens!

I generally avoid extended warranties that are offered by retailers. Especially with DSLR bodies, since I never keep them around long enough to have the extended warranty benefit me.

Also, if you paid with certain credit cards (ie. AMEX) they offer warranties on your purchase that extend past the original manufacturer warranty. Additionally, I have my DSLR body and lenses covered under my renter's insurance policy as well.

Your renters policy covers a camera that is broken? I know if its stolen but broken and need for repair renteres covers this???? U should check into this!

I was referring to it being lost or stolen. It's covered if it breaks under my AMEX card.

Unless the warranty covers drops and water damage don't bother. Yes you can buy full coverage for accidents, theft and mechanical failures. Look at the "square trade" insurance.

But notice you already have longer coverage in the lenses.

Talk to an insurance agent about an "inland marine" policy. Be wary of riders on a homeowner's policy as you don't want camera theft to jeopardize a mortgage.
