New D750 (Help with clicking noise!)

Ok so the new D750 came today and after an agonizing wait for the battery to charge I was able to go through all the menu items and set everything up the way I wanted it.

I started to notice a slight metallic clicking/tapping noise whenever I rotated the camera 90 - 180 degrees in any direction. Almost like a hinged piece of metal falling over. Does any one else have this sound on their D750? I searched online quickly and found nothing. My D90 does not make a sound at all. The camera seems to be functioning as advertised. It's late but the low light capability is astounding. Haven't taken any shots in good light yet. From what I can tell the camera is operating perfectly.

It's a bit OCD but the noise really started to bug me (on a $2k camera). Hopefully it's normal. Perhaps the mirror or the focus screen? I'm trying to gauge if this is something to be concerned about as I'd rather exchange it earlier than later if necessary.

Found one post on DPReview that said the rattle was from the spring that holds the pop up flash open and it is common. I hope this is it. I can verify that it does not do it on my D90 though.

Edit: Seems to be more common the more a search for Nikon rattle. Lots of other posts about the flash rattle. I guess my D90 was just right on with the tolerances. My noise seems to be coming from that area of the camera so hopefully that's what it is.

Well done on the New Camera,
if your worried, take it back, get it exchanged, nothing worse than having a bit of OCd and letting these noises drive you mad, it might be nothing, but your better taking it in, let them have a look, check another one, see if that also makes the noise, if so you will know its normal, but it will put your mind at rest.

Relax and enjoy the camera, there is really nothing to be afraid of.
In the worst case scenario you will take it back to the shop, but as long as it's working you are fine.
Go outside shoot some nice picture, have fun.

Sounds like you got a lemon. Tell you what I'll do for you. Stick it back in the box and forward it on to me. In exchange I'll send you my D300 (built like a tank). Agree?

If it's going to bother you take it back, and try the replacement in store. If you realise it's just a noise and it doesn't bother you, get out and enjoy! Congrats on the choice. There does seem a lot of D750 owners on here recently.

My D810 makes, from your description, the same noise when I rotate it around in my hand. Mine is coming from the pop-up flash. To check this, open the flash and hold onto it with your fingers when you move your camera around and see if it stops.

I didn't worry about as it seems to be coming from the flash hinge mechanism and everything seems to be ok with it. I had actually forgotten about it until I read your post.

Yeah, does it with no lens attached. I'm pretty sure it's the pop up flash. By manipulating the flash I can reduce the noice and sometimes make it stop. Everything else (at least what if can see on the inside) looks solid.

Thanks for the offer AF. I knew I could count on you . After 17 years in aircraft maintenance I tend to be overly sensitive to mechanical noises. Flying commercial airlines is not fun sometimes.

Thanks Cheese, and sorry for reminding you about it. I'm pretty sure the rattle is coming from the flash area. I never use the pop up flash except I guess to sometimes trigger an off camera flash. I rarely use flashes anyway. Sometimes I wish the pop up flash wasn't even on a high end DLSR.

I don't use the p/u flash either and is part of the reason I didn't think too much of it. A while back I was using it to trigger a speedlight but the speedlight recyclyes so much faster than the the p/u that I spent a couple bucks on a sync cable. This set-up is far more responsive and dependable.
