On the antsmarching.org (a Dave Matthews Band fan site) forums, there is someone who claims to have gotten an email about a new DMB iPod. He claims it will be $369 and 25GB with a color screen. He also won't copy and paste the email because he is afraid of getting in trouble because the email isn't supposed to be shared.

Here's a link to the thread:
http://antsmarching.org/forum/showthread.php?t=130200&page=1&pp=30

He also claims that DMB will release their entire catalogue on a per song basis.

I hope macrumors finds this at least Page 2 worthy, I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well that this guy isn't BSing.

the 25GB and Color screen throw this rumor into some bad light though, now if it was 20gig, that would work, and if it was a regular screen it would be somewhat possible.....

I agree 100%. The color screen is more beleiveable than the 25GB hard drive. I didnt' even know they made such a thing.

From that thread in the other forum:

The e-mail is protected, and it wont let me copy-paste.. its very private.. if you dont believe me, then so be it, but when its publically released, you will feel like an ***

Hmmm....

I guess I *do* have BS on speeddial!

Haha, yea I know. I think its unbeleiveable, too. But you never know, I don't see why this guy would have a reason to make something up like this. I spend a lot of time at that forum and ChadRap has a pretty good reputation and has been around for a while. He also has over 1000 posts. I want to beleive him...

Either it's BS or an insider leak; I don't think you can copyprotect e-mail in Outlook or Entourage just yet (though with Palladium it will allegedly work with Outlook), and certainly not with Thunderbird or Apple Mail.

But you can with Lotus Notes, and you can always make stuff up.

Even with lotus notes if you want to let someone else see it all you have to do is take a screen cap with the mail open then paste it into a photo application such as photshop. then save it as a jpeg.

It would be great if it was true. I would get one in a second. So I am going to keep dreaming/hoping that it would happen.

That forum link also mention that Dave is going to perform at ADC. Thats sounds possible though.

Yea, apparantly they don't have a show the day of the keynote, so it is possible.

I don't doubt that an other band will have a "special edition" iPod, but I don't think it will be DMB next.

they just recently collapsed and let their songs be sold on iTunes. The only band I was waiting to fold and start selling their music to iTunes. Metallica? they can stick it, I still blame the entire RIAA and killing of Napster #1 on them. I will never buy a new CD of theirs, if they want THAT much money, they can get it from other people.

I hope its true, maybe they will stop making the U2 ipod and sell the DMB one when their new album comes out.

I've seen this new DMB iPod. It looks very bland and no matter what you play on it, it sounds very dull and dreary.
I've also heard there's massive demand for the product in the US, but outside of america no one really cares.

Huh? That makes no sense. Am I missing the joke?

Anyways, do you think this is at least page 2 worthy?

Has anyone seen my can of B.S? Oh? Sky Blue had it? Thanks.

You are missing the joke. He is saying that like DMB and their music, the DMB iPod is bland, dull, etc. and not popular outside of the USA.

On topic, I am sure there will be another Special Edition iPod. It may even be DMB, but as others have said, I call BS until I see the "email". And the color screen and 25GB size also scream BS. Does anyone think that the DMB iPod would be better than the U2 iPod? I mean both bands suck, but U2 is way more popular, especially outside of the US.

And it is not up to us to deceide if it is page 2 worthy or whatever, it is up to the mods and admins. You can submit rumors using the link on the top of the main page where it says "Got Mac News/Rumors? Submit It."

Yeah I got the same email about the developers conference. I can't wait for the new ipod.

okay, Perhaps you have not seen how Apple ships their products which have not been officially announced. No I didn't get an email. And I am a stock holder who listens to all calls, reads all press releases, and reads the boards with several other AAPL stock owners on a regular basis. No one else has mentioned anything about a DMB ipod. In addition, it would be totally out of character for Apple to officially send out an email saying shhh don't tell anyone about our latest secret. Unless of course, they are just looking for more sites to sue. And to your question... I don't think Macrumors believes it. I'm sure they use somewhat reliable source reporting and verification.

Now another point. If you read your reliable friend's original post, you'll see that Dave will be playing solo at the developers conference in June. Honestly, I can't see Steve having a bunch of people watching Dave play on a big screen via satellite. There's too much energy they like to keep up at the conference. Plus read on about the bash. Well, since Dave and the band will be playing the 5th in PA, 7th and 8th in OH and 10th in TN. That leaves Dave (a vocalist) the 6th and 9th to fly all the way to San Fran on a dry plane and back in just over 24 hours.

But wait - Just when you thought all I was going to do was blow holes in your story... The Apple Campus Bash is Thursday Night - the 9th, the one night DMB doesn't have a concert. This doesn't match your keynote theory mentioned earlier. But it does give him plenty of time to get to San Fran and back.

But before I let you go, you have to know. In my line of work... "I got the same e-mail too... this is going to be SWEET!" Especially, with a monkey dancing beside it - isn't reliable intel.

But I could and in this case, hope I am wrong. I'd love to see DMB jump on board with Apple full force.

Yeah, I suffer from insomnia.

Do the math.

LOL, very true - I'll admit I like their first 3 releases, and Crash and Before These Crowded Streets were OK, but for some reason after that I lost interest. <shrug>

I heard that these DMB iPods come with a hemp iPod sock too...

DMB iPod = Flummery, pure flummery.
