New Digital SLRs?

I realize this is very "next Tuesday," but what is the likelihood of Nikon introducing a new lower end camera to replace/complement the D50, or similar changes from Canon? The D50 is about 1.5 years old?

4/2005 D50, D70s

Or do you think Nikon is pretty happy with this lineup. It does seem to cover a pretty broad range. (obviously, I'm skipping the professional cameras as I'm not that deluded...)

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger and getting a D50. I think I'll start out with the kit lens (18-55) and grow from there. I love to hem and haw over purchases though, so I thought I'd ask this question.

You said the D80 came out 8/2008....might want to fix that.

I don't see an update to the d50 for about 6 months or so...you might see a d50s....hmmmmm....just thought of that....you never know....but I think Nikon is happy with the D80 hype and they like their current product line. I think they should do a D60 and drop the D70 and lower the D50 price. The problem is that you can get an incredible DSLR (D50) for a little more than a lot of point and shoots. So I don't know that they see a reason to lower the D50 price. Maybe come out with a d60 and ditch the d70 and d50....you never know...

Anyway....I don't see it happening before the end of the year.

There's something big coming. But not before the end of the year/beggining of next year.

and not on the low end either.

something may come up at photokina in october (first week I think) though.

I don't think it will be on the low end but Nikon has to get back in the game when it comes to the Pro market....they are still hanging in there but Canon is eating them up right now with the Pro line
