New display for 15.4" MBP needed

Somehow, an alarm clock managed to fall on the display of my parent's MacBook Pro, cracking the top layer of it. The display is still useable, and no liquids have come out of it, but it is pretty distracting, so i thought i'd see if i can replace it. The computer is more than a year old, so warranty isn't an issue.

Do you reckon this would work with the MacBook Pro? Apparently the res on this display is 1680x1050.

more will probably come.

You can get a *real* MBP display on ebay for the low.

None of us have tried putting a 1680x1050 display into our MBP yet... so it's uncharted territory for anyone wishing to go that route

But you theoretically can put any display into the MBP and it'll work... after a lot of elbow grease and hacking.

You're better off looking for a drop-in replacement than going hi-res.

They don't make them as good as they used to. =/
I had a marble base abacus about the size of my hand (paperweight) fall onto my 12" powerbook and my display was fine. I have a dent in the alum casing, but the display's good.

My dad's hp notebook (company one) has a 15.4 widescreen at a res of 1680x1050 and that looks great. I think its a neat idea seeing as the screen needs replacing anyway.

If it were that easy, then yes, it would be a neat idea.

But it's not. It's pretty much hell trying to get non-stock displays working in the MBP.

Especially since I'm sure that the dell propitiatory connector is WAY different then the propitiatory connector on Apple.

thats a pity. I don't know enough to know to difficult it would be, but there was someone on here who changd the macbook screen from glossy to matte.
