Hello, I just received a Hitachi 160gb HD off eBay. Link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWN:IT&viewitem=&item=300085833975&rd=1&rd=1
However i am perplexed. It arrived w/o the antistatic plastic wrap. In addition it has the Apple logo on it. Do you think this is a new drive? or do you think it was pulled out of laptop? I really do not know if Aplle sells it's OEM drives.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It was probaly pulled out of an Apple Laptop. I just replaced my Macbook's hard drive and it had an Apple logo. To my knowledge Apple is not in the business of hard drives.

I would be very suspicious.

I would think Apple OEM drives might be sold to Apple authorized service centers, but even so, they are definitely not available to the "general public".

Good thing is, Apple wouldn't know you switched drives as this is usually the major indicator that an original drive has been replaced.....no logo on the new drive. Thats till they check your serial anyway....

Thanks for the replies. I just had the seller confirm it was a pull, he put a 7200rpm ILO the 160gb. It threw me because he said new, not new pulled. I'll give it a whirl and see. I'll keep you all posted.

I now have 2gb ram, this 160gb HD and new keyboard and cases for my MB.
I am going to use a local guy instead of Colorware to paint it gloss black and install the white keys. I'll always be able to go back to stock if I need too.:D

Thanks again.:apple:

Interesting.

The impression I have gotten is that this drive, since it is a PMR drive, should be just as fast as a 7200rpm LMR drive.

It is what I want in my next 'Book, unless the 7200rpm PMR drives from Seagate and Hitachi are out by then!
