TiVo has recently released a OTA Bolt. I suspect Amazon's price point will be lower...

That noted, I'm very much pleased with my multi-decade TiVo experience.

amazon is coming out with Fire recast, a home DVR that records OTA channels for streaming to a fire TV.

Sounds like a nice choice for cord cutters.

The thing is huge compared to a Tablo. Does it come with free guide data subscription? Tivo and Tablo both require a separate monthly subscription or lifetime purchase of that, or else the device becomes a glorified VCR that you have to manually program time and channel to record.

Not sure if that is true for older Tivo. I've had a Roamio and Bolt. Neither allowed you to do anything. Even basic VCR like functionality without paying for their service. Although those were CableCard models with OTA ability. Not straight OTA.
