New Facebook layout

Is anyone else experiencing MASSIVE amounts of lag since Facebook changed from the classic layout? It takes absolutely ages to post anything - when I've finished typing, I have to wait for it to catch up as each character appears every half a second or so. Also, navigating it is painfully slow. I'm using a late '15 iMac on Mojave with 16GB RAM and Safari 12.0.2.

For some reason, the new layout isn't even showing up as an option for me on Safari OR Chrome on my Mac. I checked the settings in FB, but there's no option to switch on the new layout.
