Ok so we're definitely switching from Verizon to at&t since our contract ends in July. What I was wondering, and I can't deduce the answer from any info Apple has given, is how to get a family plan where one person has an iPhone and the other doesn't. Obviously, if we switch we have to activate my mother's phone in the store since she'll be getting a regular phone. I figure we can get the $70 family plan and then "add" the iPhone service to our existing plan for $30. So would I get a free phone, and buy an iPhone and then add the iPhone service later when I got home through iTunes. Also, would the 2 year agreement get in the way since we would get a 2 year contract in the store and then I would try to create another 2 year agreement to unlock the iPhone.

Does anyone know how this is going to work?

I called at&t with this exact question and they said you can do this, but your contract would be reset to the beginning of a 2 year cycle at the time of iPhone activation. The rep on the phone sounded like she was reading a boilerplate response. I'd call to double check.
