Has anyone noticed that new features are slowly being revealed on Apple's iPad/Features website?

http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/

I first grew suspicious a few days ago when I saw that the Spotlight feature had appeared.

I wasn't entirely sure that it was there or not but today they added the new blurb about the Accessibility feature.

I've also been monitoring the Tech Specs page but haven't noticed any changes.

Seeing as though it runs the same os as the iphone i would be shocked to not see those features. Probably like you said just slowly updated the page to get everything on there.

They're not really "new" features, we already knew about them...

Yeah- I should have put quotes around New in my title.

They're "new" in that the feature wasn't described previously on the webpage, not new in the sense that they weren't expected to be on the device.

I'm just gonna make a wild guess here. But I'm assuming that everything you can do on the iPhone, you can do on the iPad except where limited by hardware (phone, camera, etc).

I've notices this also. I have been looking at the Canadian store and comparing it to the American. Recently, the Canadian store got the Keynote video, were the American store had it for a while. The Canadian store still doesn't have the 'Accessibility' feature yet. I'll be observing these changes everyday :D

Did the same thing with Snow Leopard. Apple changes their site without much warning in small ways - over time it adds up - like the iPad friendly changes

One big difference is that iPhone supports far more languages and input methods. I hope iPad's language support gets updated before it's released.

yep it will be a real shame if the iPhone OS lost the ability to display and type hebrew text (or arabic or any other language for that matter) for the iPad. I was extremely happy when the OS 3.0 gained this functionality.

I dunno, it could be my oblivious nature, but I see nothing that I had not seen before. Of course I did not PDF the original page, nor did I read/examine each paragraph.

I do believe the feature set of the iPad is pretty much set and while they may indeed tweak the ipad webpages, I doubt that they're making changes to the device itself.

Since the announcement, the original page has added at least the blurb about Accessibility that is now at the bottom. That was actually added some time yesterday.

The section on Spotlight may also have been added. I don't recall seeing that when the page first appeared.

At the very least it provides a few more details about features that we suspect will be available on the iPad due to their presence on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Hopefully, Apple will continue to update these pages and include unannounced features or specifications as the launch date approaches.

Probably when they announce the 4.0 OS in March.

Exactly. I think they'll let "just enough" time pass from the iPad announcement before they announce 4.0 and the next iPhone rev.

With the iPad, SJ introduced something mind-bending and future-altering, even if some fail or refuse to see this. To have intro'd the iPad and OS 4.0 - with multi tasking - on the same day would've thrown the earth into a black hole of head spinning.

So he chose to give us the iPad in a way entirely familiar to us. So familiar that many dismiss it as "only" a giant iPad touch. Some of us can already see that it is so very much more than that. And when OS4 is announced, methinks it will be undeniable.

Either way I am using my iPad as my primary computer on Day 1.

That's a bit short-sighted - especially for you.

Do you really think Jobs and Apple had to dumb down their product launch to not include 4.0. Or is it more because 4.0 isn't ready for release or even beta yet.

Believe me - if they had a firm schedule on 4.0's release and it was in time or in tandem with the iPad - Apple would have showcased it because they would have had both form and function which would have negated ANY of this negative publicity they have gotten.

To imply that the audience and consumers wouldn't be able to handle getting both announcement at the same time is, to me, silly and shows a lack of respect for the audience. So I certainly hope that's not remotely true.

First off they weren't going to announce 4.0 at the iPad launch. They would never take away the thunder of the iPad launch to talk about iPhone software. And if history is any indication, they will announce 4.0 at WWDC. Then they can have 2-3 months of beta testing before a release this summer.

Hm, you are correct. Anyone have the image they had up there? I wonder if it gave something away a casual glance didn't reveal?

I wouldn't worry about it, nor would I read too much into the appearance/disappearance of stuff. Its a product that is not released yet. Once its for sale, then yeah, we can look at the website a little more closely but since we really don't know all of the official features. Its probably better to wait and see

the only difference i see between the original pages of the ipad and the current ones are the grammar, and the way the sentences are built.

before, they were all like, "you just tap this, and blah, blah" and then "you can search for, etc" it is mostly using "you" and the current version it is straight forward and it says like "Just tap this, etc" "search for ...." i dont know if i made myself clear...

but anyway, the blurb about spotlight has been there from day 0. about the accessibility blurb, im not sure cz i didnt see it on day 0 and i cant see it now (maybe they actually did take it out b/c it gave too much) but idk..

i know all this cz i saved all the pages from the website as soon as they were out cz i knew that these sorts of things would happen, and im saving them on a regular basis. :p but too bad im on a bad connection here, i would've uploaded them... ill try asap

They've definitely added to and modified the pages. The accessibility blurb was just one bit. The pages have been reformatted slightly as well. Clearly you've not been getting screen caps of every change else you would have seen the accessibility info.

Also, is it THAT hard to type BECAUSE? Really?

ok, so i reviewed the versions that I have of the pages. (Jan 27th, 29th, Feb 1st & 2nd) & the change appears to have happened when the site was down on Sunday night.

and the version that I have of Feb 2nd is the same as Feb 1st and the same as the current one. so I think they changed them only once. (but apparently, they added the accessibility thingy for a day and decided not to put it...

so I'm now uploading a .zip file containing all the pages of the iPad (from the 27th), except the Gallery (cz its the same) and you can all save the current webpages and compare them side by side... ;)

P.S. due to my slow internet connection the upload will take about 20 mins... :$

[EDIT] it's taking forever!! urgh...
