New Firmware iminent ?

I got it as well a few days ago when the app update appeared.
I assumed it was because in the blurb for the update it said it was for iOS4 and, as we know, iPad isn't up to that yet.
Admittedly, none of the other iOS4 updated apps have done this on my iPad.

I managed to reproduce myself in fact. Can't upload the screen from my iPad but didn't get the version number in shot anyway. Interesting but probably a screwup from the devs of the app.
Some app authors have goofed in their updates to their apps, and the goofs weren't caught by the App Store approval process.
They've apparently goofed-up the Base SDK/Deployment Target settings. Base SDK = highest OS supported, Deployment Target = lowest OS supported. Some have set both to 4.0, but built the app as a Universal App. Does not compute.... (since iPad is on 3.2)
They PROBABLY meant to set the Deployment SDK to 3.2 or lower.
The most popular app I've seen with this goof is Loopt.
A "bartender guide" app that I have made this goof, and there is a notice on the App Store that another update is forthcoming, and to avoid installing the current update.

How boringly plausible. Let's go back to the bit where this was a sign that we'd have a firmware update within hours! Someone come up with a conspiracy theory! Anyone?
Me too. My WiFi problems came back after about 2 weeks of no problems. There's definitely something bad in the iPad networking stack.
There are rumours around that a firmware update for the iPhone 4 is coming next week to do something to address the antenna issue. If this is true then I'll be doubly frustrated with Apple for leaving so many iPad owners twisting in the wind with significant WiFi connectivity issues.

I honestly doubt that Apple is working on expediting a iPad firmware update until the Fall. It seems to me that as many people that have complained about the WiFi issues, they seem to have siphoned off and people are dealing with it (as frustrating as it is).
I think that they'll just shoe-in the fix in iOS 4.2 (.2 for the iPad
) which should be released in September (guessing). Of course, I would be more than happy if they proved me wrong.

Second best result - You're right. I think your reasoning is sound so, although I continue to reserve the right to feel frustrated, this is the most likely outcome in my view too.
Absolute worst result - You're proved wrong because the fall iPad iOS 4 release is delivered without a WiFi fix which implies either that it can't be fixed with software or that Apple just can't find out what's wrong.
It's more my paranoia about the possibility of a "we can't fix it with software" situation that I would find upsetting if an iPhone antenna fix is rushed out and an iPad one isn't but, so long as my paranoia is unfounded, I'll just shut up and wait.

I have no evidence to back it up, but I bet there will be at least one maintenance release (3.2.1) before iOS 4 drops in the fall.
I'd have thought this too, but I'd have expected to see it by now.
Perhaps when the iPhone 4 furore has died down?
One thing I discovered is that, when I get the notification telling me that I've disconnected and prompting for my password, I don't need to enter the password. I hit "Cancel" rather than "Join" and then go to settings/WiFi and just reselect my nentork SSID to reconnect.
My password is a totally random 64 character string of mixed case alphanumeric gibberish so just entering my password takes ages to enter since I need to go and look it up first as it is totally un-memorisable so the above works better for me but if you have a simple password then I suppose it's no big deal.
