I have what I believe to be a terrific idea for a new game for the iPad, any suggestions of how to go about making it come into being? Its a very simple idea, so I can't discuss the kernel of it here, but I have mooted it to a few close friends, who are all impressed with the concept. But I am not a programmer, nor living in any tech hub, but am simply a long-time Apple user / fan who has had a brainwave. Am open to hearing from anyone with helpful ideas.

From easiest>hardest;
Team up with a programmer.
Learn programming.
Try and pitch the idea to a developer or publisher.

Just so you know all games designers need some foundation level of coding to produce working prototypes. So unless you learn coding you're stuck with the first option - even then you'll need to explain your vision and try to get people on board.

Programming

Well, I have no programming skills, nor have the time to gain them, so linking up with a programmer sounds the best option. With the right team I believe it could be a big hit.

No offence, but I've spent time in many communities where people have "the next big idea". Some have contacted me with offers... they're usually not that good. It takes more than just playing games to come up with ideas. It takes study, it's a discipline after all. Harder than any graphic or video design job... it's all about balance, communicating great ideas and consideration of variables.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I agree with you 100%. So many times I've heard people who know nothing about software development think that they have the next big game and almost every time it is turned out to be nothing special. Sorta why so many games are so similar. :D

For making game by own self, you have to learn programming otherwise contact programmer and share your idea and demands and all this things. Hiring prfeesional programmer will give better result as per i think, But i think it will cost more.

how to realize an idea

Its an interesting point, really. Just how does one bring an idea for a game or an app into being? There is a gulf that exists which some group could perhaps usefully bridge, to act as the middlemen, linking ideas-people with VC's and developers, and protect the IP of the idea-people, but get their share of the revenue which the developed ideas would generate. Pity such a group doesn't exist! How to bring it into being... Its the same problem, with a small twist.

Most companies that I know that produce games will not accept outside proposals for games. This makes logical sense because it would not be their intellectual properity if they did and thus could result in a legal battle if the relationship ever sours. Thus they depend on in house resources to come up with their concepts and ideas.

IF someone has a concept or idea very unique and original that they like, they would buy the exclusive rights to it. But few of these ideas are peddled, they are demonstrated via demos or indy games.

In other words, the best bet would be to learn how to develop the game and build it yourself. If new original enough, you might get some developer to call you and want to make it part of their portfolio.

That makes a lot of sense. Just shows how much harder it is to do what I would like to do...!
