New game on App store - Galcon

I saw this on the app store and it piqued my interest. Googled it and found that it's a strategy game for the computer.

Anyone ever played this? It looks like it could be fun, sending mass swarms of ships to destroy other ships. I might have to take a chance and check this one out.

I don't have time to check it out. Does it have a fun single player?

$9.99 is a lot of any game. I don't know how the gameplay works. Do you build your swarms, does it depend on the resources you have from captured areas? Do you start with a fresh galaxy with several AI races as you grow and expand until you conquer? Basically the answers I'm looking for. I'll have to check on my next break.

It's got me thinking of an old game I use to play on my Mac called Spaceward Ho! years ago.

I got this game this weekend. IT IS BY FAR THE BEST GAME FOR THE IPHONE! I don't know about the mac version, but seriously, it's the only game that I've found is still fun after 5 minutes of playing. No joke. Check it out. Like now. Go.

Actually now that I have it, I'd say it's worth over $20. It's freaking boss!

Anyways. On topic. This game does look like a lot of fun, but not enough depth to it for 10 bucks.

Haha, sorry for introducing boss. I'm a college kid, new lingo just slips out sometimes. Anyways, about it not being too deep, I thought so at first, but it's pretty nice once you get going. There are 10 difficulties (which should take you awhile, I can't really get past 5 and I've been playing a lot), and 5 game modes. The dev is working on adding multiplayer somehow in the next few months too.

It probably sounds like I'm working for the company or something, but in all honesty I just haven't found a better app for the iPhone and want everyone else to enjoy it as well.

Yea, I feel ya there. I got Super Monkey Ball, Enigmo, AquaForest, and Crash Kart racing. Annnnnd I don't play any of them. They're mainly just for showing off after you have them for a day or so.

I love the iPhone, but I don't like developers porting their games over to it. It's completely different than other gaming systems, so it needs different types of games.

Maybe that's just me. I dunno. I haven't been crazy about any of the games except Galcon so far. It's the only that has felt natural playing on the phone for me.

My biggest issue with using it as a gaming device, which it's graphics and power are so capable of, is that I don't want to be stuck without the ability to make phone calls just because I played a little too much Crash Bandicoot. So it's more of an "in a pinch" gaming system for me.

Galcon's been updated to 1.1!

Not sure what's been updated as the AppStore page still says "1.0". But if you download it, it's v. 1.1.

I think sound was suppose to be in the latest update.

I don't own it yet, but it's on my list.

I had some technical trouble getting sound working originally, but thanks to all your pleading I was able to figure out how to get sound to work in Galcon. It now has the sound effects that have always been an important part of the Galcon experience. I’m still not planning on adding music, as I’d rather listen to my iPod tunes. Quick usage tip: if you want to adjust the volume of your music, or skip to the next track WHILE playing Galcon, just double tap the Home button and the iPod brings up a dialog box to let you do just that!

yep. Sound is added which is good. On the bad side, there's no volume contr for it.
