New Gen Apple TV + External HD

I'm sure this has been discussed alot in the forums but I haven't seen anything about the NEW apple tv's. I bought one for my Dad for christmas and was wondering if this is possible. I have copying movies over my external HD set up on my windows computer upstairs. I was wondering if it was possible to stream those movies over our wireless network to the apple TV that is hooked up downstairs? If this is possible, how easy or hard is it to set up? Thanks for the help!

i've been reading more into it, and it looks like this is possible but everyone seems to say you hook up your airport extreme. I'm using a belkin wireless n. Would that make a difference?

I have all my music and movies stored on an external HD. My iTunes library is pointed to the external HD. This is then streamed to my ATV2. I don't have an airport extreme, so if that's the setup you're talking about, it should work.
