I consider replacing one of my GT120s. Assuming there will be a conventional 2012 Mac Pro: What's the word on the graphics card candidates? Is there any educated guess towards their downward compatibility with older Mac Pros, 2009s fe? Would thunderbolt become a spoiler here?

My personal guess, and it is just a guess, is that we'll see a new MP in 2Q.

GPU will be AMD 7000 series that is not officially backwards compatible with older MP, but will work in older MP anyway by using a power cable adapter.

And even if 7000 series wont work getting a 5770 is like 5x faster than those cards. Even batter, the 5870.

The Thunderbolt question is one no one knows the answer to.

I know they're slow, but I could hold out a bit if there's a chance for a 10x faster solution for the same money.

I should have said could instead of would then. But it could kill backwards compatibility... couldn't it?
