Well, I did a little surgery on my Apple TV to replace the hard drive with a Samsung 160 gig drive (HM160JC). I also had to buy a new USB2 enclosure for the Samsung because my old one could only format 128 gigs. It took about 7 hours to make a disk image of the 40 gig drive on my Mini's firewire drive, but only about 20 minutes to copy it back to the Samsung drive using Engadget's method. I could not get gpt to create the larger Media partition - it corrupted the drive. So, after repeating the copy of the disk image onto the Samsung, I just dropped the $45 for iPartition and it resized the Media partion in less than a minute.
I then copied over sshd from my Mini onto the OSBoot partition, thus am able to log onto it using ssh and to turn on AFP to mount the drives on my Mini. So far, everything is running ok.
Has anyone installed Perian on their ATV? What other enhancements have people made?
