Hello There, I would like to put a bigger hard drive in my iMac Dalmation, slot loader. It has a 40 Gb one in it that it came with. I have seen several on ebay but a lot of the second hand ones say they are formatted for Windows. Does this matter? If I fit another drive and use my factory restore/install disk will this erase and reformat a used drive for me? Also mt iMac has a CD-RW drive and I would like a DVD one, is it possible to find ones that are suitable? Thanks

Any desktop PATA drive under 127GB will work.

Anything bigger will only work as a 127GB drive.

The slot loader mechanism will limit you to a similar style drive, and are more expensive since quite a few of current drives are likely going to be notebook units.

You will have to re-format the drive, just make sure it is an ATA or SATA drive that will be pin compatable with your imac. The disk utility will do the rest... Also I think there are superdrives available for the g3 imac line, but sometimes it is cheaper (and you get a faster drive) to get an external firewire Dvd drive.
