about a week ago i got a maxtor 300gb hard drive to put in my dual g4 MDD
all seems well, until a couple days ago
when i try to access the drive from safari to load something to the net
or something similar to that
and even just trying to access it occasionaly
and once it did it out of no where, not doing anything
everything locks up and i have to restart
anyone have any idea whats going on?
i have 2 drives now, 1 80gb, and this 300gb
the 80gb has all the important stuff
and the 300gb has just video files and such

thanks

Maybe jump back into your G4 and make sure there are no loose connections. Also, use Disk Utility in the Utilities folder to verify the disk. :)

i talked to my cousin about it who is a pc/linux user
he had a similar problem once and found it was a faulty/not powerful enough power supply

i wondered if this could be the problem in my case?
but i havnt seen any power supply upgrades for my mac
and i dont believe just any power supply would work

please, any help would be appreciated

Do you do any update recently? Also I would try a different browser and see what happens then

Have you reseated the pram. Also check your ram. It might be loose when you put in the new HHD

What year? I have read that there is a limit on the drive size (137 GB) up through the 2001 quick silver PM G4 (fixable with after market card), but you indicate a MDD model. I just wanted to check and make sure your machine didn't fall in this category. Often when there's a question on the G4, I recommend a site I've found some tips on http://www.power-mac-g4.com. They have some good reset tips and notes on some known issues.
