New Hardware for my MacBook

Hi Guys,

I have decided to keep my MacBook and buy new Hardware for it.

I have 2Ghz and 2GB Ram, but only 80GB of HardDrive.

SO I want to have at lwast 160GB. 250 would be good as well, but is
not needed.

But then I would need an external HardDrive as well, right?
Which one could you recommend me? Best would be a not too
expensive one.

Then I want to have Leopard and Windows XP.

Does Windows XP really run like on a normal Windows PC under Leopard
BootCamp?
Do no problems occur?
And can I, if I should want to, remove Windows from my Mac really easily if I do not want to have it anymore?

And if I buy Leopard here in the U.S., does it have a German language package on it?

I'm pretty happy with my Western Digital MyBook 500 GB. There are a lot of versions around (different capacities and additional fetures), pick one that fits your needs.

Yes, of course. Apart from the pretty design and OS X, your mac is really just a PC. A while ago, when macs used the better PowerPC architecture, this was a problem of course, but ever since the switch to x86 Macs are completely compatible with Windows. And yes, you can remove them with ease if you get too frustrated :D.
 
i would get an external HD they are reasonably cheap and you could pick your self up a 250-500gb hd for good prices. check out macsales.com they have great products for what you are looking for
 
But I want to back up and stuff on an external. SO I think an bigger internal would be better. So WD makes no problems?
 
And I thought that I do need a FireWire External HDD for a MacBook?! I thought that USB does not work for BackUps etc.

I think that the WD My Book does not have FireWire

Firewire is better yes, but you can use USB. If you can get firewire, use firewire. The higher end models of the MyBooks do have firewire actually, and if I'm not mistaken, some even have ethernet ports (slower than FW, faster than USB) which is nice since then you could just plug it into your wireless router (since most of them have 4 ethernet ports on them) and access your data from anywhere in your house.

I want to buy Windows XP, but the Home Edition with SP2 is still so expensive.
Amazon sells an OEM Version for 100 Bugs.
What exactly is an OEM Version? And is it legal?

Can I buy like an empt HDD case for my recent HDD with the 80GB?
Then I could install Leopard on the new one and copy all my date on this new HDD from the old 80GB Tiger HDD in the case?

But where do I get such a HDD case, or however that is called?

They are called an Enclosure. You would a 2.5" SATA enclosure, and you can find them in USB, or USB/Firewire.....

If you are going to use the 80GB drive as an external, and use Time Machine, you might want a bigger drive than 80GB, since you are putting a minimum 160GB drive in your MacBook.....

Yes, it's legal

OEM versions of the OS are designed for system builders and you used to have to buy them with hardware but M$ recently changed the licencing 'rules'.

What you don't get with OEM is any support from Microsoft for the operating system and the licence cannot be transferred to a different machine once it is registered.
