Each time Apple introduce new hardware revisions the Apple Online Store give clues as to whats going to come out by their shipping times..

Usually they always end up going from 24Hrs to 5-7 days... In fact I can't remember a time when this wasn't the case...

However iBooks & Powerbooks are both showing as 24 Hrs on all models..

In fact all hardware is still showing as 24 Hrs

The only thing that has suddenly changed to 'currently unavailable' is the 1gb iPod Shuffle.

So either only the iPod shuffle is going to be re-launched or

This could mean that yes Steve may announce new hardware tommorow, but that shipping time may still be a few more weeks away - possibly spring.

Or Apple has figured out that WE were figuring out what was going to be new, based on shipping times, and now they're not updating the Apple Store the same way they used to.

I noticed this too, but I can't believe there will be no hardware announcements. It also said shipping in 24 hours for iLife '05 and iWork '05, so what do we figure about that?

Or, it could mean that they will let PPC and Intel models coexist for some period of time.

I think the ONLY thing I am sure of about MWSF '06 is that there will be hardware announcements, so I disagree with the OP's guess.

People will be expecting to see the results of last summer's announcement of the Intel switch. I can't imagine a scenario where no new Macs are unveiled tomorrow, even if just one model, like a new Mini.

Which is what I think will be the case.

I cant see it. If you want people to change hardware, don't give them a choice.

Seriously, running os9 alongside osX for a long while made the takeup/switch to osX took longer than it needed to, in fact the only real embrace of osX came when they officaly ended support for os9... It was the one thing that got Quark off their arses and release a osX version...

So dragging on Intel switch isn't beneficial to the consumer in the long run, I want to see full intel compatible/optimised versions of software sooner rather than later, having PPC still available may delay some of the lazy publishers putting out universal binary software...

It's not that I don't think there wont be Hardware Announcements, I do... Just I dont think they are going to announce them ready to ship...

"Good Morning everyone, welcome to the Macworld Expo 2006.

We've got some super exciting stuff for you today and we have to start now to get it all in so here we go.

Today we introduce Intel to the Macintosh line. Macintosh line, meet Intel, Intel, this is the Macintosh line. Soon you two will be together but not just yet.

And now, Kanye West and John Mayer will sing all their songs.

Thank you very much."

The expo you describe is where naughty Mac users go when they die.

Everywhere seems to be running very low (or even sold out) of the Shuffle. Plus it is due an update after the nano and iPod video. So I would be very suprised if we didn't see a new (or different product to replace) iPod Shuffle.

...interesting signs....but whenever there is a new hardware announcement I get crop circles in my oatmeal, and my bunions flair up....this has not happened yet! And...the Apple website also sends me private subliminal messages from Steve telling me to buy Intel stock...!

It's obviously quite likely there will be some software announcements, but I doubt we'll see a Mactel laptop at MWSF. It could be a Mini or other desktop first but even then I'm not so sure.

I think Apple will pull the big guns (aka a good Mactel laptop) later on in the year and hold a special conference to unveil it in grand style. Steve's a showman and he'll want the Mac world fully focused on the Intel transition.

With no new hardware, I think the keynote would be reduced to Steve Jobs showing off all the new iDVD templates and iPhoto book templates. Of course, first he'd go over the millions of iPod sales last year. Really, the keynote is not a keynote without new hardware.
