New HD install, MACBOOK

So i installed it and i'm trying to format it.
I replaced it, put in the install disk and booted from the cd, now its looking for a place to install, and the hd doesn't show up.

how do i tell its in properly when i put it back in. Do i hear a click or something, cos its not showing up.?

In the setup at the top you have options. I can't remember what it is called but one of them will take you into the disk utility and you can format the drive. I had this same issue when I replaced a drive in an iBook G4. As soon as I formatted it with disk utility everything worked beautifully.
