My library is pretty much out of control and need a 2TB HD to handle everything. I was thinking about a WD green drive as they are cheap and quiet, but has anyone used these types of drives for streaming? I just want to make sure it will be fast enough for iTunes copying/adding metadata/general itunes configuration. I am looking at the following drive from newegg if anyone has any positives/negative things to say please let me know. Thanks.

Or possibly this one

I've been using 3 1TB WD Green drives for my movies for 3-4 years now. I haven't had a problem with any of them. They are really good drives for storing content that you don't use often.

Just about any HDD you buy will be "fast enough for streaming".

Don't be confused by the term 'streaming' which implies needing amazingly robust and fast connection to watch anything. Think of ATV as streaming with a HUGE buffer. Your drive will be accessed to pull the file to the ATV while it begins playing back. The entire file will probably be on your ATV, residing in memory, within 2 minutes or so. Even if it took 30 minutes to transfer the file...there isn't a feature-length film that would be affected by this poor performance. (and if it DID take 30 minutes, there are probably more problems that your HDD speed.)

Thanks for the info! I will just go ahead and order the 2TB WD for $100 w/$20 mail in rebate. Sounds like a deal to me!

I had a 2 TB WD green drive in my Mac Pro and it immediately packed up after a week of owning it. I think it was just a faulty unit though, most of my drives are WD and they've continued to be fine.

I replaced it with a Hitachi 2 TB and all is fine now.
