Hey guys I'm new here and I just bought my iMac 1 month ago. AND I LOVED IT it was a hauss it was super fast and everything. It was the total package and more. It is the 21.5" 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB Memory, 1TB HD. But recently it has just gotten slow OUT OF NOWHERE. I haven't used up close to the 1TB and I haven't downloaded anything I didn't know. It is slow whenever i log off to another user it just goes to a blue screen and there is a loading wheel but nothing ever happens. Also the internet works fine, but applications are slow and when I do a Search for an Application it just gets stuck. In order to log onto another user i have to force shut down with the power button because it get stuck... Any suggestions on how to fix my problem? THANKS!

Try resetting your PRAM to start things off.

How to do this:

(Keys)

P+R+Command+Option

On startup (before you hear the startup noise) hold these keys until the computer goes off, then it will restart (the screen goes black for like 10 seconds, KEEP HOLDING THEM), then it will start up as usual. You can let go of them after the restart completes.

First, try repairing permissions using Disk Utility. Second, try repairing the start up disk using Disk Utility. You will need to boot from another disk or the Snow Leopard install disk to repair the start up disk. Third, If disk repair does not work, I have found that the very best program to deal with random system issues including programs not operating properly is Diskwarrior. It works like a charm to correct any errors in your system directory. These errors crop up from programs which do not install properly, improper shutdowns, etc. From my experience, Diskwarrior is very safe and works extremely well in returning the computer to optimum condition.

One other thought, if you have shut the computer down improperly as you indicated, it is highly likely that you have directory damage. Directory damage manifests itself as random improper performance. If this is the problem use Diskwarrior.

I'm not too good with computers haha but i did Try to reset the PRAM and it didn't work. Ironically the guys form the Apple store sent me an email asking if everything with the Mac was working fine and if i had any questions HAHAHA So i'll see what they say and update! THANKS!! stay posted
