I just received my iMac C2D 2.0 with 20" screen. After booting it up and leaving it warm up for 20 mins, a green stuck pixel appeared in the upper part of the screen, especially when the back ground is black. When I switched to FrontRow, that green pixel is very shining and remains there.

Does anybody know how to deal and fix this problem? This brand new iMac changed my feeling about Apple. Anybody has the similar problem with me? I need your guys' help!!!

Bad as in your upset with Apple for the dead pixel? In response to that I would say ANY lcd screen is subject to dead/stuck pixels. The go dead/stuck when they feel like it AND on the best LCD's as well.

Now onto fixing it. If it's "stuck" there are several methods, the rubbing it out which on the new iMac's can only happen if you remove the glass so if that's the case your out of luck on that method.

Another method is there's a little program thats been linked here in the forums and google is your friend here that runs a small version of iTunes visualizer in a small window. You place that window over the dead/stuck pixel. If it's stuck it may unstick but if I'm not mistaken the documentation says to run it for a while and the pixel may not unstick within minutes and might take overnight to work.

The basic premise for that method and others like it is to force the stuck pixel to change colors to unstick itself.

If the pixel is DEAD then that's another issue. If your within your 14 day window you can return it to Apple no questions asked.

However if your not keep in mind there is an "industry standard" regarding dead/stuck pixels. According to Dell they go by 9pixels in a cluster THEN it would justify a replacement. Dell HAS replace my laptop lcd 3 times, 1st was due to screen issue, 2nd was for 1 dead pixel, 3rd was for 1 dead pixel 4th had a dead pixel and they finally said "no, sorry" since it is to expensive to replace and they've done enough freebies and have to adhere to the industry standard now.

So if Apple refuses (even if your under warranty) don't get to upset. If they do (if your under warranty) then be grateful.

More than likely it's just stuck and an unstick program will probably fix the issue.

5sec google yielded these results:

Good luck

Dead pixels are usually a less obnoxious issue, it is the stuck pixels that drive people nuts.

However a letter from your psychologist that says green sends you into a killing rage may work. :D

I indeed tried the Pixel fix program last night. The flash widget worked whole night on the stuck pixel and it didn't help. That green pixel still remains there and shining. I spent more than a thousand dollars to received a iMac like this, it really hurts me!!!

Calm down there buddy. As others have pointed out, there is no LCD that is immune to dead or stuck pixels. Call up Apple or go to an Apple Store and tell them your situation. I have no doubt they will replace it since it's brand new.

You have 1 stuck pixel out of 3 million. I know it sucks, but like everyone else has said no LCD is immune to them.

I Pixel is dead & it's killing you?

Get a life, or maybe even try to resolve it with Apple before posting about how your world is falling apart.
1 out of 3+ million pixels is pretty good considering.
TRY THIS
1 Call Apple, Tell them your problem.
2 If 1 above doesnt work, sell it & Buy a DELL!
3 Tire of the dell's 10 15 dead pixels, Vista Crashes, Incompatibilities.
4 Buy an analog, old school screen that has no possibilities of dead pixels.

In short, Get ahold of the people who CAN do something about it instead of going Hyper dramatic.

I can't believe there are still posts like this. One single stuck/dead pixel out of nearly 1.8 million total is hardly a problem worth worrying about. It's about the same as saying a car is fatally flawed because there is a chip in the paint on the hood that is the size of a pinhead.

I've heard the sermon about 1 out of a million+ is fine but I have to disagree. Bad pixels suck, period, and buying an Apple computer is half about appearance and style. Bad pixels negate this from the start. The argument, no LCD is immune...well most LCDs are bad-pixel-free...even Sonys, Dells, etc. Apple needs to make themselves the exception here. Sure it will cost them some bucks, but it also shows how much you take pride in your art/work.

Problem is, of course, is that the costs are transferred to the customer.

And returning your Mac because of (let's be honest) a relatively trivial cosmetic issue won't make newer machines any cheaper.

I have a pixel stuck on red towards the centre of the screen. It bothered me for a day or so when I discovered it, but now I take no notice of it at all (- in fact, I have to actively look for it to be able to see it now)
