Hi

I will be getting a nearly new iMac 27" 5K 2017 with a 1TB fusion drive.

My older Mac mini has a fairly recent clean install of Mojave and software.

1. If I use Time Machine to restore all files on my new iMac from the mini will this cause problems with the correct files being in the flash drive area ?

2. Will my VMware and its Windows 10 operating system still work OK or will I loose the Windows 10 activation?

I would appreciate any of your thoughts about the best way to migrate or just re-install from scratch.

Dave

Pity about the 1TB Fusion Drive as it only comes with a meagre 32GB PCI-e blade drive. 2/3TB machines have a 128GB blade drive. You are going to have to be very careful about what you install on that 32GB.

Did you actually buy the new iMac yet?
If you have not, I urge you to NOT buy one with a fusion drive inside.
They are "the past".
The 1tb fusion drive is particularly "limited", as it has only about 32gb for the SSD portion.
You may not be happy with the overall performance, considering what you pay for it...

Instead, get an iMac with an SSD inside.
DON'T buy the 1tb SSD -- it's too expensive (unless you don't care about the money).
Buy either a 512gb or 256gb SSD.
Keep it relatively "lean and clean" with the OS, apps, accounts.
If you have "large libraries" of stuff, keep that on an EXTERNAL USB3 drive (can be either SSD or HDD).
For running Windows, you would probably want a 512gb SSD.

But my recommendation is to NOT run BootCamp on a Mac, unless you absolutely have-to-have "native Windows bootability".
Instead, use an "emulated solution", such as VMWare Fusion, Parallels, or the free "virtual box".
