New iMac 27 i7 HDD question

I'm looking to order a new 27 imac but had a quick question that i can't seem to find anywhere. If I were to order just the 256gb SSD drive with no other drive, do they install it in the secondary bay or where the 3.5 inch hdd is?

My plan is to just order the hard drive with the SSD and install a 2TB myself or if I had to, install my own SSD.

I'd recommend you buy stock or the 2TB and buy the SSD elsewhere, apple SSD's doesn't have garbage collection so they slow down dramatically over time
 
I can only imagine the drive will be factory installed in the primary bay. If you intend to install your own hard drive in a brand new iMac, it voids any warranty and/or Apple Care and Apple will not fix it. You will need to take it to a 3rd party dealer and pay for it if it ever needs serviced down the line. Even something as small as a fingerprint on the LCD will indicate to Apple's technicians you've been in there and have, in face voided your warranty. (something to keep in mind before you start taking it apart yourself) The only user replaceable component of the iMac is the RAM. I just learned this as the hard drive in my iMac just died over the weekend and I researched how to replace it myself.
 
I think I'd pass on the SSD option in general right now. It's really expensive, apple doesn't use the best SSDs, and if you try it yourself, your warranty is gone.
