See my sig for iMac specifics.

I want to record on CD some of my iTunes collection. I'm not sure what type of CD's to buy. I would like to play them in typical car CD players and portable CD players.

I've looked & can't find info on what type of recording this iMac can do. Whether it can use CD- RW or not (guess I would hope it could do that much). Yet, I understand that typical car CD players can't play CD-RW only CD-R correct?

Can anyone give me some info on what the CD capabilities are with this system and what type of CD I need to play in cars/portable players?

You need 700mb CDR's.

DO NOT use "rewriteable" CDRW's. Nothing but problems.

For a brand, I suggest you buy Verbatim blanks. AVOID "no-name" and "house-brand" blanks.

For a source, I recommend newegg.com. You can routinely find Verbatim 100-packs in the $13-15 range, and they ship quickly.

TIP about music CD burning:
The first track always needs a 2-second lead-in.
Subsequent tracks can have any lead-in time you wish, including 0 (for live shows in which the tracks "flow together").

I also suggest that you set up iTunes (or whatever app you're going to use to burn) for a more "moderate" burning speed than maximum. 4x-8x works for me.

As an alternative to burning with iTunes, you might also consider the freeware app called -- appropriately -- "Burn".

I burned my first CD. A couple questions.

I have the 700MB CD-R's. I made a playlist in itunes & in the bottom menu bar you can check # of songs selected, time, & MB. I create a playlist to 650MB and it says "won't fit". I remove 1 song after the other, painstakingly until I'm at 17 songs 1.3 Hrs, & 132.5MB, it now says it will fit & I burn it.

What's with the MB issue? 132.5MB for a 700MB disc? How do you know how many songs you can select if this option doesn't work correctly?

Secondly, I create a playlist in a specific order but when burned it burns in a totally random fashion, is there a way to burn the playlist in the order specified?
