New iMac, blank screen.

This is just great. I was really anxious to get this iMac, and when FedEx came I was ecstatic. Well, I plugged everything in and turned it on, and guess what? Nothing. It turns on and chimes, but the screen is just blank. I've tried resetting the PRAM and inserting my Mac OS X Install disc, and what an Apple tech rep told me.

Any suggestions? This makes me upset that it doesn't do anything. If I leave it on for a few moments I hear it say "English", and if I hit return it starts playing music [which I'm guessing is OS X install], but nothing shows.

Help is appreciated.

No, but I did try the brightness keys just in case. The backlight comes on but nothing shows, which is my guess that it's an LCD problem. I can take it apart to try and fix it but I really don't want to.

Well, I called Apple for an exchange, and I just got off the phone with them an hour ago with the tracking number for the original, and the rep said they'll ship out the new one later today [and that I should get the new one tomorrow].

What time does Apple normally ship their replacements?

Ouch man, sorry to hear that. My iMac finally shipped yesterday and it should be here by tomorrow. Crossing my fingers now hoping something doesn't happen.

Oh I know how you feel. I'm really worried that this new one doesn't work, but I have confidence that it will. I didn't even get to set up OS X on the last one, or at least see how amazing the screen was. My new one is shown as "Prepared for Shipment". I hope all goes well with your iMac though.

I got my new iMac, it's perfect!! The RAM I installed works, so it is now up to 2GB and I'll buy 4GB later maybe. But there's no imperfections with the screen so far and I love this computer!

Good to hear it, I'm still waiting on my iMac. It's about 45 minutes away from my house and it's killing me that it hasn't been delivered yet

Yeah the delivery really got me. But, FedEx came an hour earlier than I thought [based on my first iMac], so I was surprised.
