Hi Guys,
Since you know it all... :D

Is a new iMac launch planned soon?

maybe , maybe not , who cares , the current ones are good enough for most
and apart from a possibility of thunderbold replacing all existing ports with one ..no noticeable changesapart from maybe , but only maybe OSX lion preinstalled and a touchscreen , mabe even a battery so its more mobile and fits in one line with iPod, iPhone and iPad

Hey MacHamster68, so you would suggest just buying an iMac now or wait? Im in the market for my first iMac and will go for the $1999 27" with the i7 upgrade. But the graphicscard isn't up to pair imo, so im holding a bit off atm.

for what it is worth wait until the summer. first off you will get lion. second if you buy for a student you will get a free ipod . a back to school promotion.

Here is the real kicker. If the new machine comes out with

t-bolt connection and it is able to boot with this external

http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=11623

it will be the fastest boot drive ever bar none. So if you go out and drop coin on a machine today and this comes out in the summer effectively increasing an iMac by 50 percent in performance you will feel why didn't I listen to phil. I am waiting for the summer and I am waiting until someone tests the lacie as a boot drive. a pdf on the drive;

There probably will be a new iMac release. As to when, who knows. I imagine June just pulling a date out at random. They will probably be waiting for the desktop variant of Sandy Bridge.

Yes .. newer iMac will be released this year, just like last year .. Apple will release the refresh. I'd say June because they'll release Lion on July (7th month for OSX 10.7 make a good rhyme, doesn't it)

I hope they include onboard SSD as boot drive to load things faster, but i don't know, I can only hope

I have a 21" but man I wish they would release a "mainstream priced" (to quote Apple) 17ish" model so I can buy one for the family room and have my home be windows free!!!!!

I would like to get the wife and kid on the :apple: bandwagon.

Guess would be June/July.

Waiting depends on how much you want/need one...only you can answer that

but please with a white bezel , apple has already the ideal display for that matter too and basically all internals in the MacBookPro 17 inch , but if apple would choose than the 17" iMac will get even more expensive then the iMac 21.5 another option would be the display from the 17 inch MacBookPro and the internals of the mini , but then the price will be on par with the 21.5 only less performance
as apple is utterly useless when it comes to make a affordable Mac
the logical step would be to create a affordable Mac to use a older case , the the displays are ready available and are matte :) finding a processor that is suitable for a affordable Mac should not be a problem as i still think 1.83 ghz are fast enough and 128mb gpu is fast enough too

but all apple has to offer in a price range that could be classed as affordable
is a iPad without 3g and with a 1ghz processor and 256mb ram even a netbook with a n270 atom 1.6 ghz processor running snow leopard is faster and cheaper , so i dont expect apple to release anything affordable that can be used as a computer

so i wait for a iMac clone from china , they already cloned the MacBookPro ok only a atom 510 but nvidia ion gpu so even HD is no problem at all and snow leopard runs on it like on a Mac and with recent problem infested 27" iMac i doubt a clone could be worse
http://liliputing.com/2010/03/macbook-pro-clone-with-nvidia-ion-graphics-dual-core-atom-chip.html
so i wait for that one here but with the internals of the MacBookPro clone above
http://www.gizchina.com/2010/10/12/1600-yuan-imac-clone-tempting/, and yes the back does not look that nice , but i seen uglier designs of backs of all in one computers , and i never see the back anyway unless i plug in something in a usb port, and all the chinese Mac clones can run snow leopard , just have a affordable price tag

I think the Sandy Bridge delay Intel had last month has probably delayed the iMacs. The MacBook Pros got an update because the delay only affected the desktop version of the chips. So hopefully a month or two for new iMacs.

...Or I could be talking complete crap and be entirely wrong!

I share this point, I'm warming up to get my first iMac in the house but I would need some more graphic power for the bucks..
It seems that apple is always behind for price/performance to PCs...
dunno why.

Just kick in some hardcore graphics, you can afford it Steve!)

No new iMac in 2011.

Apple decided that they are just too darn exhausted from all the new hardware and software releases this year and have put off updating the iMac line to 2012.

Yeah, I hope the new iMac's come out April/May cause I'm getting too tired of waiting. Plus the bookstore at my school sells them cheaper than the student discount I would get at an Apple retail store.

Honestly, you can't get more "mainstream priced" than the low end 21" imo. What do you want, a sub $1000 imac? Ain't going to happen.

Buy a mini and a cheap monitor. Could get you in at about $800 if you don't go for Apple's kb&m.

I hope soon!! I just sent back a 27" i7 2.93Q with hopes of reinvesting in a new model. It was painful packing it up and going back to my MBP13. I have patience but....

Hi Guys,

Is a new iMac launch planned soon?

I think a new iMac is being released soon. My local Apple store had at least 20 iMac's on display as late as two weeks ago. I went into the store yesterday and they've reduced the number to four, two 21.5 inch and two 27 inch computers. And these were nestled into the back of the store on a corner ledge. However, previously, iMacs were disbursed on both sides of the store. This just makes me think the refurbished systems will be out soon, but as others have stated, nobody knows for sure.

I'm in the market for a 27 inch system. I have an early 2009 20 inch and, although I LOVE my iMac, it no longer has the power I need for some of the programs I use a lot.

You don't think that has something to do with today's launch of the iPad?

Agree with the above.

Apple are secretive, I would be surprised if they would remove Imac's from a display because an update was imminent. If they did, there would less need to visit a rumours site.

Ipad 2 is new and will gain more attention, thus more on display.

I just ordered the iMac Ultimate 27" - I thought about what I would really miss when the iMac 2011 comes out - Thunderbolt, Sandy bridge and a faster Graphics Card.

My iMac 27" Ultimate has:

2.93 i7 Quad Intel cpu
256 internal SSD
2 TB internal HDD
5750 Radeon GPU
8 GB DDR3 Ram

Since I now play games on my PS3, ordered the iMac 27" Ultimate with 256 GB SSD internal for OSx/Win7 and programs and an internal 2 TB for my pics, music and movies and also got the TimeCapsule 2TB and a Studio Design My Book 2 TB external for extra backup, I decided I probably won't miss the new features we will see in the 2011 iMac.

Of course I would have preferrred to get these extra goodies for free, but I decided I wanted the iMac 27" now more than in 2-3-4-5 months time.

I may regret my decision - but I doubt it based on my needs and the fact that I got the iMac 27" Ultimate :)

What do you say - will I regret it :)

Looks good to me.

Updates always will come, I dont think the next one will come soon enough to make you regret your decision.

No you have the internal ssd and the internal 2tb. You don't use it for business so the biggest problem(ssd dies) is less important to you. Bring it in and have it replaced so what if you wait 2 or 3 days for a new ssd. T-bolt would allow a booting raid0 ssd (by lacie) so if you own a business you can have a super quick external booter or 2 and the quick inside ssd. For you that is a luxury that you do not need. To a small business owner iMacs running off external raid0 ssds solves a lot of problems.

Highly likely before July and NO WAY I'd buy one of the existing iMac's after seeing the MBPs benchmark numbers with the Sandy Bridge chips. If I absolutely needed a new computer tomorrow I'd buy a new MBP with SandyBridge before I bought the "old" iMac.
