New iMac, updates installed and restarted twice, but fans are running constantly under no load. Should I reset the SMC? or something else? Is this common? this is not my machine so when I'm next with it I'll check the temps (it's not in a hot environment).

The fans will always be running in iMacs as soon as you turn it on. (or any computer).

How fast are yours running? If they are running at max rpm then you could try resetting SMC.

Thanks for the reply. You right, they should always be running, the problem, more accurately, is that they are running loud. I'll try the reset and post back.

I installed iStat and the CPU temp was only 30 (I've got a 3 year old iMac and it's showing 41). Restarted with a SMC reset and all is now well. Cheers.
