Improvement. Even if you like the whiteness of the old one, anyone with an eye for quality will appreciate the better materials of the new one (especially when viewed in person).

I haven't seen the new iMac in person yet, but just from pictures online I much prefer the all white. I'm honestly glad that last year I didn't wait to buy.

White.

The new iMac looks like just another HP television/monitor.
It doesnt stand out - it looks, as stated by numerious people, 'bleh'.

Also, the mandatory glossy screen is a gigantic setback - I far prefer Matte.

Since this is merely a design poll, Ill refrain from criticizing the GPU though.

Aluminum.

I've always loved the look of brushed aluminum. The color of the old iMac made it look like a toy, and not like the high-quality computer it really was. The new aluminum finish makes it look like a pro product and matches it's true power. :)

I have not seen them in person yet, but from the pictures, I like the way the chin area is less pronounced on the alum/black VS all white.

So, the design trend in apple is moving to black & alum like the iPhone as opposed to the previous white iPod look. I wonder if this will spill over into the MBP's at all? I cannot imagine that looking very good.

The new design is growing on me the more I see it, but I've not seen one in the flesh yet.

Youch. I wanted to buy the new iMac, and when I saw it, it didn't look too bad.

Then I saw my sister's computer, I think it's a HP, and while the finish is miles ahead on the iMac, it does look too PC-ish.

Shame.

When I first saw the new iMac I thought ¡: OUCH! Apple has gone of its head!!! We're doomed!! But now I've spent time looking at it on the web I think wow its amazing!! I can't wait to see it in apple stores!!

One question though...

Why did apple legal not take the Keyboard of the web before the announcement?

Earth .. for now
I love everything about the new iMac even the keyboard BUT I would much prefer a matte finish vs a glossy. But then again I've never had a glossy at home, so I can't say anything from experience. I'm just concerned about the glare.... give us a choice :apple: glossy or matte.

Do you think they'll offer us a choice like on the Macbook Pro?

I don't like the new one. It does look like an Apple computer. It is disappointing...

I think the black boarder is the things that wrecks it for me. I think it is good on the eyes when looking at the screen because it isn't distracting but I don't think it looks like a Mac. I like that it hides the isight camera, and that it is a glass cover.

I don't like how it is only glossy. I have a MB and it is glossy and that is ok because I always sit in front of it, BUT if I had a 24" screen in my house I am going to want to use it to watch movies. It is ok if I'm sitting back from it and watching a movie, BUT what if somebody else is there? They can't see the screen because they aren't straight on? I'm not saying that matte is better than glossy and starting that fight, but glossy can't be seen from all angles, and when you have a big 24" screen you don't want to sit straight in front of it all the time! It isn't a laptop where that is what you do.

I think it they removed the black border and back and made the whole thing aluminum then it would been better. It barely has any aluminum on it!! Only the edge! IT IS NOT AN ALUMINUM IMAC!!! They would of been better off making a black one or an all aluminum one.

Overall, Thumbs Down. I like the internal updates like the processor and stuff, but I don't want to sure it off. I like my MB because it is white, it screams APPLE! The new iMac doesn't. It looks like a stupid HP or Dell. At work I use a Dell monitor and it is aluminum around the edge and a black border.

I love everything about the new iMac even the keyboard

This is another thing. I like new keyboard. Some people don't, but as a MB user I'm used to the MB keyboard so I don't mind it. The keyboard looks like. The good thing about iMac is that they don't have a lot of wires. A power cable is all you need if you have a wireless keyboard and mouse and wifi. When I looked at the new keyboard I liked it, but then when I looked that the new BT keyboard I said to myself "Where the hell is the number pad?". IT DOESN'T HAVE A NUMBER PAD!!! WTF!! If you get a iMac you want a BT keyboard to keep it simple, and when you use a keyboard you want a number pad. BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE ONE!! AAAHHH THIS MAKES ME SO MAD!!! I WON'T BUY ONE FOR THIS REASON ALONE! The last BT keyboard has a number pad, why can't this one? Good job on taking two steps back! If I didn't want a number pad I'd buy a MBP!

I want a white 24"!!! I WANT AN APPLE COMPUTER! NOT AN iMac!!! I also want a blueray reader in it too... but that is a different story :)

The look much nicer in person than on the site. I like the black Apple logo too.

New One

I voted for the new one. I was never a fan of the endless sea of white plastic that was introduced as the iMac G5.

I'm shocked about the new iMac.
It's to pc-ish withe aluminum + you can't really call it a new design if you ask me.

No, I'm glad that I bought my iMac in January when it was still white.

Also I think that there will be a new version coming much quicker then this one when Apple starts getting so much negative feedback about it.

Steve said it had no number pad so that people could use it on their lap.

I like that, and I never use the number pad anyway, but most people would probably prefer a number pad rather than better convenience when using the keyboard on their lap.
