New iMac detects external 2.1 speakers (2 sats and a sub) as headphones?

When I plug in my speakers to the audio out jack on the back of my iMac it always thinks they are headphones. Is this normal?

I just got my iMac last night! It's great otherwise thus far.

Are you talking about the standard 1/8'' stereo plug? If so, I'm not sure how the iMac would be able to tell headphones, from speakers, from a huge professional style home theater system. I wouldn't worry much about it.

Thats just their generic label for output through the headphone jack.
