Hey Guys... Sad news, I bought a new 27" BTO iMac a couple of weeks ago and it just showed up today. It was my first computer in 5 years and I was beyond excited to finally get it up and running... I unwrapped her and got her set up, and that's when I noticed the first issue; underneath the screen was a small metal shaving about the size of a couple of pixels. I was very annoyed off the bat by it, but when I realized that it would require sending it back I decided I would just live with it as you couldn't really tell once the screen was one.
So I got over it and moved on and begun setting up the computer and getting all my apps installed on the new computer. I began installing Final Cut Studio 3 and it failed a few seconds into install.. I tried a few more times to no avail. Then spent about an hour trying various troubleshoots. I then read somewhere that it was always a good idea to do a fresh install of the os when you get a new machine, so I thought what the hell and went ahead and booted from the OS CD and formatted the disk. Then I went to install the OS and it began to install and then FAILED. Tried a few more times and failed every time.
I then had a worry that maybe something was weird with my DVD drive. So I tested my FCS disk in my old mbp and it installed without issue. By the time I realized this I was 11 minutes past the closing time for apple care..
Sad day. So I'm guessing I'm going to just have to send it back and get a replacement, but that means wait for it to ship back, then wait till a new one is built, then wait for it to ship back... So I'll be without a computer for a couple weeks... A great day turned to ****. I suppose I could also take it to a genius, but still I'd be without it for a few days and it sucks that my brand new machine would already have to go in for service... Doesn't seem right. What would you guys do? Do you think Apple would help out and comp some expedited shipping? Maybe more?
