New iMac HD overheating?

I got an iMac i5 recently, and I've downloaded iStat. It seems as though the HD hovers around 55C, and I think 60C is the maximum. Are there any precautions I should take, or is there nothing to worry about?

You could use SMCFanControl but 55c ain't that bad

My iMac is at 115F or 46C. So it sounds like yours is running a little warm. All you can do is make sure the ambient room air temp is moderate and you have adequate air flow around your iMac.

Is this temperature when it's idle or under a load?

Edit: I checked my MBP with the new 7200RPM HDD and its only at 97F/36C. Strange because I would have assumed that the HDD in the laptop would run hotter than the desktop.

Insides of iMacs are hot. The heat will take it's toll on your hard drive.

I had overheating issues a while back with my iMac 24" Extreme. The machine itself never faltered, but I was concerned that this was chronic issue that would eventually bite. And the iMac is not exactly easy to get into to replace a dead HDD.

I had AppleCare, and after some unsucessful 'fixes' Apple came back and said there was no problem... (but then, why were they trying to fix it?!). With some serious pestering, Apple finally agreed to replace the machine. [Now rocking a (2009) 27" i7.]

Stick to your guns and get it seen to. A dead HDD in an iMac would be a serious pain in the proverbial a**.
