new imac hdd setup question

its not worth it right for the cost ?
having the 256gb apple ssd and a 2tb drive ?
im considering buying a new imac but really hate having one hdd .. but that option is really expensive not sure if its worth it

The SSD isnt particularly expensive, but it isnt particularly good either as far as SSDs go.

What are you going to use this computer for? Why not just use an external HDD?

if i can avoid external things i would .. i just remember people saying the apple ssds are horrible when i was looking at laptops .. just havent seen any talk about the ssd option in the new imac .. i would just use the 2nd drive for media storage .. movies etc .. and for some editing stuff

i guess i could just get like a lacie g raid external or soemthing like that

the flash drives are pretty terrible - they are Samsung ones, and as of yet OSX does not support TRIM support for SSDs. this means that your SSD does not have some advanced optimisation features and it will slow down by about 30% after 6 months or so. in order to get this speed back you must go through a fairly lengthy process to reinstall the OS.

until TRIM support is offered for Macs i have not been recommending SSDs for general users. Garbage Collection is helping the problems, but you always want the native support rather then a "work around".

Just so I get this right... reinstalling the OS will make the SSD working at a 100% again?
Or does it lose som of its speed?
And how much faster will the SSD work when/if the OSX get TRIM support?
And in % how much better does the other top brand SSD's work compared to the Samsung one?
Ofcourse we don't know yet if the new iMac have the Samsung SSD, right?
