I just want to post this idea so that in case I'm right, I can prove it. Here's my idea for the new iMac.

Combine a laptop, a desktop and a tablet in one. It'll have the same stand of the current iMac, except that the base that connects to the monitor will be a docking port.

Desktop Mode: Its just like the iMac but with a more screen verses display plastic. It'll look like a notebook screen. You preferably use bluetooth for keyboard and mouse, but if not, connect it to the usb in the base, which is also a dock. All connections will be coming from the base of the stand.

Tablet Mode: You decide to make it portable, so you just pick it up, from the docking base, and hold it like a tablet and the screen reconizes this and make the screen touch sensitive, like the iPhone.

Notebook: You can twist the screen and underneith is a notebook keyboard/trackpad. So it'll be just like a notebook, its battery charges when you "dock it". In this mode you can use the side ports for regular ethernet, audio, usb...

So think this dream machine can come to life?

this is an interesting idea that could probably work but might not make much business sense. it would probably take sales away from both desktops and laptops.

i like where your head's at, though. perhaps someone could photoshop a mock-up for fun :)

but there will be 2 sets of keyboards if u want to use it at home
how about a detachable keyboard?
detach it when the imac is used at home and attach it when it is used as an laptop

anyway i don't think this imac will come to life....:(

A 20" tablet? Sounds like a geeks dream!

Nice idea, but I doubt very much it'll come about anytime soon.

Apple are very careful about new products. They think different but they also think conservatively and carefully.

i can see this being far more useful for just laptops, where you could bring it home and just put it on the stand and use it as if it were a small imac. But to be in place of both desktops and laptops would be hard due to screen size
