Snow Leopard was just announced today, and I was hoping that when it was revealed that maybe some hardware would also be revealed. Granted today was the first official day Apple gave a release date on Snow Leopard. Also Apple tends to conceal all their new products until the week it comes out, so from a consumer perspective I want to make a smart and well invested purchase when it comes to buying a computer. There has been too many times when I have bought hardware, and weeks later a updated version is available to the public.

I have been saving up to purchase a new iMac, and I am just trying to get a idea/understanding when a new model (or updated version) of the iMac would come out. Anyone have any idea's or thoughts when any new models would come out?
Thanks for everyone's time.

Nothing significant before Q1 2010. That's the time when new mobile CPUs from Intel should come out. Are you ready to wait months?

Well that sucks..... do you know where you got your information(source) on that? I'm curious to read into it.

Kobey47 - Did you even read this forum or just post your burning question because you thought it was so timely it deserved its own thread?

Within the first 3 pages of this subform are two other threads; " When will we see new/updated iMacs?" and "New iMacs expected this fall/winter?"

Do you think by starting yet another iMac speculation thread some great new insight will spring forth that wasn't put in the other two threads a couple days ago?

Jeez, lighten up. the OP is a newbie and may not understand the way this site works. I know I didn't. :):)

So we're to let them break the rules.

Okay.

Minor Problems

---
Failing to search. If you have a question, it may already have been asked and answered in the forums. If you have an issue to discuss, there may already be a discussion about it. Set a good example by searching for existing threads before starting a new thread. When other people (especially new members) fail to search and start new threads on old topics, don't scold them or make them feel unwelcome. The best way to be helpful is by posting a link to a previous relevant thread.
---

By being rude you're actually breaking rules not the OP/newbies.

If you don't like these threads, your post count does. Without these kinda threads you would have at least 5 000 less posts.

Okay.

Who is this "we" you speak of?

A god? A collection of voices? The borg?

Who is "them"?

Last time I checked, I was a Me.

Jeez people come on...if you cant say anything nice leave it alone!

Oh wait...that would keep the post counts down now, wouldnt it

Rule-abiding MacRumors:Forums members.

Anyone who asks an infinitely-asked question because they're too lazy to search.

I see...so giving an ignorant, arrogant answer (which many of your posts consist of) actually follows forum rules as well?

Given that I am too lazy to check (thereby making me a "them") I just will assume that arrogance is ok here on these forums.

I guess I am not good enough to be a "we"....darn and I think I'd look good as a Borg too:D

To get back to the point of the thread:

(1) Rumors of a price-drop / minor update in the fall.

(2) Early 2010 - w/ the Arrandale processors and the "two compelling new features" rumor.

Either way, if you need a computer, then buy now. If you can wait, you will be better off to simply wait then.

I haven't been keeping up much on all of the anticipation for the Arrandale processors. Is it likely the iMacs will go that route or is it more likely they will have desktop processors?

Far more likely they will remain on the mobile platform as the desktop variants draw too much heat for the iMac's design. Apple will have to make the iMac thicker for the desktop processors (do you see that happening?)

Yo all

This is pretty much the exact situation I currently find myself in. I've finally grown tired of anything PC and would like to take the leap to Mac. I recently got on the site and can get an education discount, as well as a free Itouch with the purchase of an Imac. My main concern is that of blueray.

I do enjoy movies and I could envision this screen being used as a mini TV in a pinch. How do the current movies look? Will the blue ray be THAT big of a deal?

Also, with the itouch(essentially free $200), plus the education discount, i'm wondering if i waited if i'll get even more off with a possible price drop. Does anyone have a "ballpark" or idea how much they will come down? If it's only like $100, then who cares, if it's going to be substantial it would be worth holding off.

Lastly, I'm wondering if the 2.66 ghz chip is $300 worse than the 2.93 chip. I'm going to be using for a lot of photo's, word processing and internet usage. is it really worth an extra $300 for that chip?

Why can't Apple put desktop cpu in the Imac? Some laptop computers even have desktop cpu's. The only catch with them is they cost alot and have no battery life.

(1) No one knows how big the price drop will be, but I imagine it won't be more than $100 or $200.

(2) If you don't plan to do any kind of heavy rendering (like Video Work), then the processor difference will not matter to you. You are better off upgrading the GPU to the ATI card as that offers great performance for the value.

(3) The education discount will be present even after the price drop, so you still will get that, but the free iPod Touch is enticing.

(4) Blu-Ray will look the best, but a well encoded DVD or even the newer movies from iTunes look fine (great if in HD). Blu-Ray is not an option now anyway, but we might find out more about Blu-Ray come September 9th. Problem is, the free iPod Touch deal ends the 8th.

and do you know why? no? I think something really fun will happen the 090909, one day after the 8th. ;)

I´m also going to buy a new Imac, but I will wait untill the 090909, at least - it´s must be a update. The last update was in third march - MARCH (!). Long time ago for a Imac. And the USD is much lower now then it was in march - something must going on in Cupertino.

gief me.
