Just received my new 21.5" imac for my work office to replace a ~5yr old HP PC that's actually been a very decent computer.

The new imac looks great. But it is Dead. DOA: not just pinin' for the fjords. Nothing to troubleshoot here; it doesn't power up. Yes, the outlet(s) I've tried work, yes, I tried another power cable. Yes, I'm so miffed I joined this forum simply to rant and vent. My first computer was a commodore 64 and since 1984 I've used both Macs and PCs about 50/50. This is the 1st time I've every had a computer arrive dead.

The irony is that I have a previous gen imac (circa 2007) at home and a macbook pro (circa 2009) and, having quite liked them, had decided to migrate my work computers to macs. I am now rethinking that decision (as I type this on my reliable HP PC). Argh. The offending unit is repackaged and awaiting return lables - in the meantime I need to decide whether I bother replacing it with another imac or PC.

Here is some shocking news for you: computers from all manufacturers can, and do, arrive faulty. This can happen with all electronics. Frankly, getting so upset that you just had to tell the Internet makes you sound like a teenager. Where do you work? The department of rash decisions?

riled I understand how you feel, but would advise against cutting off your nose to spite your face!

Get another unit sent, you'll be happy once you're on the other side of this obstacle.

It could have just as easily been a PC, and if you are as intelligent as I give you credit for, being in charge of the work computer systems, then you will know that on the whole Macs are much more reliable machines.

So return it and get a working replacement sent out ;)
