Hey there,

I recently got a new 21.5” imac. I upgraded from an second gen intel 20’ iMac. The computer seems kind of slow and sluggish. I see the beach ball all the time it seems. My older machine was faster than this one. One of the things I did was ran the program where I stick a firewire behind the both imacs and transfer all of the data from the old machine to the new. Is it possible that doing that is causing the slowdowns? Would it be better if I did a fresh reinstall and reinstall all my apps and data? Or is it a different problem?

Thanks,
Daniel

i'm right with you.. when i use QuickSilver and i type more than 3 letters the computer just freezes for like 5 seconds. i already did a fresh install.. i'm thinking of getting a replacement..

I'm also seeing the beachball a lot and i mean several times a day.. this was never the case with my previous 24" 2.8ghz imac.. i'm actually pretty annoyed.. and even considering going hackintosh.. i have until march 1st to return.. i'm gonna do one more install and if don't work i might return

Theres no need for replacement. Sheesh.

You have 90 days free phone support, call.

To the OP, yes, I bet something came over during migration assistant that is causing your slowdowns.

You both should try a new user and see if you have the same slowdowns.

Im betting you dont.

Which points to a software issue.

Tony, maybe QS is just jacked up? What happens if you dont use it?

I had an issue with mine slowing down because of overheating.

Download an app called Smc Fan Control and see what your temps are

When I increased the fan speed, problems all went away.

@archipellago
what's wrong with you? I see you posting almost every time somebody complains about something & you have to add your 2 cents (more like 1cent) of bull**** to the post...
Looks you're one of those hackintosh boys who can't afford the Mac?

One of the old drivers and/or apps could be causing a problem.

Something running in the background could be sucking cycles, wiping and starting over is an option.

---

Could also be something as simple as a bad font, snow leopard has issues with old fonts.

And some old OS hacks can cause problems also.

---

If it is a bad font, when you install the apps, you likely will reinstall it and recreate the issue. But you should also get an an idea of where the problem lies as you restart a few times and suddenly get a slow mac.
