Hi all,

My first iMac arrived today and I am very excited. :D According to the tracking it wasn't supposed to arrive until tomorrow. I tracked it last night and it was in Anchorage Alaska.

I bought 4GB of memory from OWC. I was wondering if I should install it first or just boot it up the way it is from the factory? What do most people do?

After booting, any suggestions on what to do first? With a PC, I would probably make an image of the hard drive. Do I need to do something like that with a Mac?

Thanks

I would go ahead and fire it up. Just play with it for a little while so you can make sure the ram they installed is fine (which it is, more than likely). You can change the ram anytime. I would just run tests on the ram after you install it to make sure it's perfect. Not sure what tests to run, but if you search you can find out. I'm about to receive my ram :) Hopefully today, but maybe tomorrow.

I just got in my iMac late last week and my 4 GB ($170) RAM from Crucial at the same time. Before turning on my Mac i installed the RAM, and once i was finished, booted it up and it came up just fine! (thankfully!)

Didn't like the RAM install, btw. Pull-tab is a stupid system.

pax,
rudy
