So I finally convinced my parents to upgrade their aging iMac G3 700mhz CRT. We bought them a new 20in iMac and I planned to use the Migration Assistant to move all the data from the old iMac (running 10.4.10) to the new machine.
However much to my chagrin no matter what I did I could not get the old iMac to mount its HD via FW target disk mode. So I ended up making a disk image of the HD on my sisters MBP which saw the drive, then I put her machine in FW target disk mode, mounted the image and transfered the data from the old iMac's HD onto the new machine.

I am curious to see whether anyone else has had this problem, I believe the root of the problem is the fact that the old iMac's HD is formatted as Apple Partition Map, while the new iMac has the GUID partition map.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Other then that the new 20in iMac is great, I played some HD video on it for my parents and they were blown away, the screen really is nice, but the viewing angle has to be perfect I have seen.
