I'm having some issues with a friend's new iMac with wireless keyboard. Both are new, literally just out of the box.

1 Getting a 'no keyboard found' message in 'set up bluetooth keyboard' preferences - but most of the keys work and the keyboard is listed in the bluetooth menu status and system profiler.

2 The volume and brightness keys are working incorrectly - as function keys only, regardless of whether the fn key is also pressed.

Keyboard preferences don't have the checkbox for 'Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys' option which I have on my wired keyboard iMac.

3 On calibrating the color, trying to save the new profile delivers a 'can't be saved' error message - but the profile is then listed with others, but the delete button is greyed (it's also greyed on my wired keyboard iMac - hadn't noticed that until now).

4 The 'show keyboard and character viewer in menu bar' option is ineffective - it worked initially, but having then dragged it off the menu it won't display (this is also the case on my wired keyboard iMac - hadn't noticed that until now). Selecting the option doesn't 'stick' when closing prefs - and on re-opening prefs the checkbox is cleared.

5 Can't zap PRAM - just boots normally whilst the key combo is held down.

6 Should the green power light on the keyboard be on when the keyboard is on? It flashes when switched on and then goes off. And the keyboard appears to be always on as key input is always accepted.

UPDATE:

1, 2, 4 and 6 now fixed.
When I'm more awake, I'll look again at 3 and 5.

I wasn't aware of the need to press and hold the keyboard on/off switch for at least three seconds - I'd just assumed it was a 'press for on then again for off' thing.
Turning it off and then on again, fixed stuff.
