How does the GT 120 card perform in games? I would really like to get the GT 130, but I'm $200 short. Is it worth saving up for/spending the extra $200 for the GT 130? Gaming-wise. I would mostly be playing games like GTA IV, Valve games (L4D, Half- Life 2, TF2, etc.) UT3, GRID, Trackmania, etc. I have an HD2600 XT right now in my Mac Pro, and it handles all these games fine. If the GT 120 performs comparable or slightly better than the HD 2600 XT, then I'm fine. Does anyone know if it does?

I know I've seen this covered elsewhere. Do a search and you'll find it.

I found this with regard to the desktop versions in the MacPro

Cheers,

I think the GT 120 wil be fast enough to handle those games pretty well.

it will run valve games fine, no chance on GTA IV not unless its as lowest settings and rez, the 120gt and 130gt are **** for gaming. just to put it bluntly

Well, if they're comprable to the 2600XT, then they will be able to run it on medium settings.

Well, the GT 120 seems to be the 9600m renamed, which is ver similar to the 8600m which is terrible at running GTA 4 (I would know lol).

And is the 2600 XT any good? Because I have the 2600 Pro in my iMac and all it ever does for me for gaming is freeze the entire system (in Half Life 2).

Yeah the 2600 XT is pretty good, and I had the 2600 PRO and it was good too. I dunno why it freezes for you.

Well, I just came back from the Apple store, decided to get the GT 120. Haven't seen how it runs yet. I'll report back later.

Cheers,

Yes, I know there's a thread on it, but the last reply was the 9th and nobody had really said anything useful besides that the GT 120 was a complete mystery. Some said it was a 9500, some said 9600, etc.

this just in: http://barefeats.com/nehal05.html
These are new benchmarks of the macpro'09. Although it also has a 120GT, I believe it has 512MB ram as opposed to the 120GT in the iMac, which has 256MB... The card is kinda crappy though, which is too bad, since I bought a new iMac with GT120 last week.
I'm now really curious as to what the 130GT en 4850 (mobility or not??) in the iMac will do.

My GT 130 plays Tomb Raider Anniversary at all full settings, resolution and anti aliasing with minimal slowdown. I don't know if that helps anyone curious about the GT130.

Just tested it with GTA IV. I'm really impressed. Runs amazing at Medium settings. I'm going to try some other games later.

Congrats! GTA4 is hard game to please, hardware wise. I took my iMac to the apple store, Genius Bar is running a complete stress test on it... Trying to figure out why it's freezing.

GT120 can't handle GTA IV. Maybe with lowest res and all settings at lowest.

GT130 is worth it

I just said I successfully ran GTA IV on my GT 120. It runs like a dream with these settings:
