Holy Lord Jesus skating backwards on roller skates,

I had seen a thread on a fully kitted out IMac Pro with all the bells and whistles going for over $60,000 dollars and I did a small comparison with the items I purchased at Best Buy 3 weeks ago, compared to what I seen this new IMac Pro would deliver. I will also have a question about the best IMac to buy for 15 year old daughter that's an artist.

Wow, now looking at my Apple MacBook Air in 13.3 and Gold doesn't seem such a bad buy.. I cannot imagine that Mac Pro being worth more than my newest items I got this past few weeks..

(This was from an inheritance I had received from my Mother passing away in October, and reason we are getting a new Minivan is because we were without a minivan since our 2004 Ford Freestar lunched it's transmission @ 184,000 miles back in May. I had decided to get ourselves the Apple items we always wanted and the Toyota for the wife since Im disabled and cannot work anymore due to disability. (I was a local truck driver until 2012.)

2020 Toyota Sienna for wife @ $32,000
MacBook Pro for wife @ $1299
IPadPro 12.9 for daughter that's an artist.. @ $999
Apple watches for each of us... $1400
Apple IPhone 11, @ $700
IMac Pro @ $5,000

I'm not bragging about what I paid for, I'm just comparing costs here... ^^

And like I said in my profile, I liked buying the things I had promised for my family when the time came... but I'd give it all back in an instant to have my mom back all healthy...

2nd part of this thread, is What would be the best Apple Desktop setup for an aspiring artist that also likes to game online? I had seen the IMacs going for $5,000 and was wondering what would be best for her?

cheers,

I think you confused the Mac Pro with the iMac Pro, two different beasts and yes the new Mac Pro is insanely expensive all fitted out. It's not for individuals though, pretty sure comparable systems are also very expensive.

Totally agree with your last sentence though...family are most important.

Setting gaming aside....for 2D art (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) A middle of the road 21 iMac is a fine machine. I would suggest at least 16GB of RAM, and only SSD. If more storage is needed, go with an external.

So a 3.6 i3 with 16GB, and 512 SSD lists at about $1900. The i5 or i7 would be faster, and likely have at least a year or two more useful lifespan, but at a higher cost.

As for high end work stations.....yes, the Mac Pro can be really crazy-expensive maxed out. This a long, long way from a consumer machine.

But so can any similar configured work station. Here is a similar spec Dell:
