hey,

i just bought a new 17" imac and it's great except for this thing i noticed. the screen itself is shifted to the right and slightly slanted. i would take a pic but don't have a camera on me. the part between the actual screen and the bezel is black, and that black part is noticeable more on the left side than on the right. is this normal?

it's certainly noticeable.

Hmmm. Doesn't look like a sending-back problem to me.

Is it one of those things that, once you've noticed, you can't stop noticing?

Yeah. It's not even that it's shifted to the right, but that it's also angled which makes it stick out more. Anyways, I called the Applestore and they told me to just bring it in to exchange it. I hate lugging it around the mall though!

you paid for it. if you notice something that would bug you for the life of it, return and get a new one. if it is the same, too bad, get another model (or platform, for that matter).

negative, you can only change the res and colours.

You could change it if it was an external monitor, because those have setting on the monitor itself. But i dont think the iMac screen has that on it. At least, mine doesnt.

Update: Got another one and it looks fine now.

I brought it in and the genius checked it out (at the back) and told the cashier (the person I was talking to) that there was nothing wrong. Whatever...I told them the problem and I hope they don't just sell it like that.

Mine looks like that as well except for it not being angled.
I've never seen an imac without the black border.
But it's reasonable for you to bring it back if it's angled.
The retail stores are really liberal in issues like these and
are acting really professional...
