New iMac Processors

Which processors have the greatest chance of being in the new iMacs soon to be released?

I am not asking for dream answers; I am asking realistically.

Do you think there will be a tremendous jump in performance similar to what the Macbook Pro just saw?

Basically, I believe you will have a dual-core low-end iMac + quad-core higher-end iMac.

I'd think something along i3-2100 / i5-2300 (hopefully i5-2500) for low-end / high-end in both the 21.5" and the 27" + the i7-2600 in the top-end 27". It may also be that all 27" will be quad-core, in this case we will probably see the i5-2300 / i5-2500 / i7-2600 models.

Edit: just read though the Hellhammer's post from here, and his prediction's are probably more close to the truth than mine if one
looks at Apple's model history Mine are more optimistic though

So according to Hellhammers predictions, the new high end iMac will have an i5 processor which means no hyperthreading and lower cache over the i7 2.93ghz current option, but with an increase in clock speed over the current model. Not so much of an upgrade there, is it?

I am hoping they at least keep the i7 and go up in clock speed. I mean...come on....going down to the i5 doesn't seem like a spec upgrade to me.

No, his predictions pit i5 and i7 as same options as the current iMacs. The current iMacs have i5 quads as their highest end model, with and i7 as a bto. His predictions are the same.

Higher clock speed isn't all of the picture either. The expected cpus are the sandybridge architecture, which is the second generation of nehalem, so it's not just an upgrade, but also a revision.
