Hello everyone,

I've done some light searching in the forum (but hardly a deep dive) and I'm seeking some insights into my new iMac purchase. I'm looking to get the new 2019 iMac and use it primarily for amateur video editing and Final Cut Pro X.

27" model for sure, and I know to buy as much RAM as my budget allows.

Should I spring for the 3.7GHz 6-core 9th-generation Intel Core i5 processor or is the lesser powered 8th generation processor good?

Is the "8-core processor" worth considering?

I'm not even a pro-amateur, I'm a noob making family videos. I realize for my use I could likely get away with a base model, but since it's an expensive purchase, I'd like to get some lifespan out of it which is why I'm contemplating springing for the processor upgrade.

I'd appreciate any advice, link to relevant reading and gentle chiding.

Thanks

Don’t buy extra RAM from Apple. Save a small fortune and upgrade it yourself.

Most important bits for FCPX is the I/O and graphics, as it uses Metal for best performance. Ensure you get an SSD as standard and the best graphics card you can afford.

8GB RAM will be fine for the time being and you can always upgrade it later without any hassle.

The i5-8500 CPU is more than powerful enough.
